As part of the Valencia Regional Government’s Strategic Infrastructures Plan 2004-2010 and continuing the expansion programme of Valencia’s underground network, LINE 2 involves the addition of a new and powerful north-southeast axis.

This new line strengthens connections in the network in general and directly connects suburban areas with the city centre, two parts of the urban landscape with different uses and interests. It provides service for important administrative, cultural, commercial, entertainment and business centres, such as the Ciudad de la Justicia (Law Courts), the City of Arts and Science, Central Market, the Historic Centre, etc. It simultaneously integrates densely populated suburban areas which are well-established or in the process of growing.

LINE 2 is an important axis, with connections with the rest of the Metrovalencia network in Pont de Fusta (Line 4) and Xàtiva (Lines 3 and 5), as well as connections with other transport modes (the RENFE rail service) via the new Alacant station, creating multiple possibilities for users to transfer quickly and comfortably.
