DESCRIPTION
Underground section which starts at the intersection with C/Luis Santangel and Avda. Reino de Valencia and ends in C/Alicante, next to the Estación del Norte train station in the vicinity of C/Segorbe.
PROGRESSION OF THE WORK
On 1 March, one partial milestone was completed when the Gran Vía Germanias underpass was opened to traffic, making two-way traffic flow between Gran Vía Germanias and Gran Vía Marqués del Turia easier.
In August, the screens and roof slabs were finished in Alicante station, and the street was opened, as well as the junctions with C/Segorbe and C/Alcoy. Part of C/Segorbe remained closed for the access rump to the interior of the tunnel. Excavation work on the inside of the station is being carried out in this area, as well as slabs on the intermediate levels and the station floor.
In the Gran Vía Germanias, the screens and roof slabs work were carried out in the section closest to Reino de Valencia on december 2008. The major part of the work is centred on this last thoroughfare. The screen and roof slab work was terminated between December 2009 and February 2010 and work is continuing on the excavation of the tunnel and the station, as well as the construction of the intermediate and base slabs.
In March 2009, a section of Avda. Reino de Valencia, between Gran Vía Germanías and C/ Pintor Salvador Abril, was reopened to traffic. In October of the same year, this partial re-opening was extended to include the bicycle path up to C/ Taquígráfo Martí." Full traffic access was reopened as of March of this year, although it is restricted to as single lane, given that part of the road surface is occupied by the tunnel's provisional access ramps.
Traffic Diversion
Due to the single lane restriction in Avda. Reino de Valencia (from Gran Vía Germanías towards the El Saler highway (See Map), the EMT bus routes 19 and 40 are still being diverted (See EMT Web page).
